Harpal Singh Pannu

Professor Harpal Singh Pannu


Background: Born on 20th June 1953 at village Ghagga district Patiala, Punjab, India. Parents S. Ran Singh and Sardarni Rai Kaur, humble peasants with a small piece of cultivable land.


Studied up to matric class in Govt. High School Ghagga scoring good marks in 1968. Admitted in Mahindra college Patiala where passed BA(Hons), 1st class 1st in the Punjabi University winning Gold-medal. Did MA Punjabi in 1974. Admitted to Gurmat College Patiala in 1975 and passed MA Religious Studies in 1977 standing 1st in the Punjabi University improving existing record. Did M.Phil. in 1980 and did Ph.D. in Sikh Studies in 1988. 


He was appointed Assistant Professor in Khalsa college Patiala in 1980, joined Punjabi University in 1983, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1988 and full professor in 1996.
His wife Harminder Kaur MA in History is home maker.


Dr. Harpal Singh Pannu has two sons, elder Dr. Husanbir Singh Pannu who did Masters' and Doctors' in Maths from USA, now teaching at Thapar University Patiala. Younger Sukhanbir Singh Pannu did B.Tech. Computer engineering from Punjabi University Patiala, Masters' in education from Adelaide Australia. He teaches science subjects in Govt. Sen. Secondary school at Adelaide.
